Network for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities(REDI)
REDI is an Argentine cross-disability human rights organisation founded in 1998 by and for persons with disabilities. A key contributor to the drafting of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, it continues to influence national policy through litigation, legislative advocacy, and UN reporting.
About
REDI (Red por los Derechos de las Personas con Discapacidad) emerged in 1998 from the convergence of persons with diverse disabilities and their allies who believed that disability is a social and cross-cutting issue demanding systemic change. It is grounded in the social model of disability as enshrined in the CRPD, and was among the civil society actors who actively participated in the drafting of that convention.
What They Do
REDI works across gender and disability, employment rights, access to justice, and anti-discrimination litigation. It submits alternative reports to the UN CRPD Committee, participates in the Ibero-American Network of Experts on the CRPD, and is a member of the International Disability Alliance and the Global Partnership for Disability and Development. The organisation pressures government bodies and courts to enforce disability rights law in practice.
Who They Serve
REDI serves Argentinians with all types of disabilities, with particular attention to women with disabilities, people facing employment exclusion, and those navigating the legal system. Its membership and governance are led by persons with disabilities across a wide spectrum of impairment types.
