About
The Southwest Louisiana Independence Center (SLIC) opened in Lake Charles in 1985 as a federally funded Centre for Independent Living (CIL). Built on the consumer-control model, SLIC is run by and for people with disabilities, ensuring that those served direct the services they receive.
What They Do
SLIC provides information and referral, individual and systems advocacy, independent living skills training, peer counselling and mentoring, and direct home care through its Direct Service Workers programme. A Veterans Direct Care programme also gives eligible veterans consumer-directed home and community-based services.
Who They Serve
SLIC serves people with any disability and seniors across a 20-parish region in southwest and central Louisiana, including Baldwin, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis, Lafayette, and surrounding parishes. Services are provided on a sliding-scale or at no cost.
