The Latvian Umbrella Body for Disability Organisations(SUSTENTO)

SUSTENTO is Latvia's sole national umbrella organisation for disability and chronic-illness associations, uniting 55 member groups that represent over 50,000 people. Founded in 2002, it is the only Latvian NGO voice for disability policy within the European Union.

SUSTENTO is Latvia's national umbrella body for disability and chronic-illness organisations, established in 2002 in Riga. Its 55 member organisations collectively represent more than 50,000 people with disabilities across Latvia. SUSTENTO is the sole non-governmental organisation representing the Latvian disability sector within the European Union and a full member of the European Disability Forum (EDF).

What They Do

SUSTENTO cooperates with the Latvian parliament, Ministry of Welfare, and local governments to shape disability legislation aligned with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It organises educational seminars, empowers member organisations to participate in national decision-making, and represents Latvia in EDF advocacy at the EU level.
