Vanuatu Disability Promotion and Advocacy Association(VDPA)
Established in 1999, VDPA is the national DPO of Vanuatu and was instrumental in making Vanuatu the first Pacific country to ratify the CRPD in April 2008. VDPA advocates for disability rights, inclusive education, and barrier-free society throughout Vanuatu.
About
The Vanuatu Disability Promotion and Advocacy Association (VDPA) was established on 4 April 1999 and formally registered as a charitable organisation in 2002. It drove Vanuatu's ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in April 2008, making Vanuatu the first Pacific nation to do so.
What They Do
VDPA advocates for disability rights, promotes inclusive education and employment policy, and collaborates with the Government of Vanuatu on national disability legislation. It works through the Pacific Disability Forum and international partners to build an inclusive, barrier-free society for all persons with disabilities in Vanuatu.
Who They Serve
VDPA serves all persons with disability throughout Vanuatu, with particular focus on inclusive education, economic participation, and ensuring persons with disabilities are included in disaster risk reduction and climate resilience planning.
