About
The Vanuatu Disability Promotion and Advocacy Association (VDPA) was established on 4 April 1999 with the mandate to advocate for the rights and abilities of people with disabilities in Vanuatu. Headquartered in Luganville on the island of Santo, VDPA is Vanuatu's primary national disabled people's organisation and a member of the Pacific Disability Forum.
What They Do
VDPA advances disability rights through advocacy, community awareness campaigns, and the development of 28 affiliate groups that work at the community level across Vanuatu's islands. The organisation engages with government and development partners to promote disability-inclusive policies and to ensure people with disabilities are not excluded from national development processes or disaster risk reduction planning.
Who They Serve
VDPA serves people with all types of disabilities across Vanuatu, including in rural island communities where access to services and information is most limited. The organisation's affiliate network extends disability rights and peer support beyond the main urban centres to communities throughout the archipelago.
