About this resource

About

Apple Live Captions is a built-in accessibility feature on iPhone, iPad, and Mac that generates real-time, on-device transcriptions of any audio—from phone calls and FaceTime to videos, podcasts, and in-person conversations—without sending audio data to the cloud.

What It Does

Live Captions works across native and third-party apps including Zoom, YouTube, and Spotify, attributing speech to individual speakers in group FaceTime calls. On Mac, users can type responses that are spoken aloud during calls, and the caption window size, font, placement, and color are fully customizable.

Who It Helps

Available at no additional cost to deaf and hard-of-hearing users of iPhone (iOS 16+), iPad (iPadOS 16.1+), and Mac (macOS Ventura 13+) in supported languages.
