About this resource

About

Founded in Denmark in 2015, Be My Eyes has grown into a global community platform with millions of sighted volunteers paired with blind and low-vision users in over 150 countries. In 2023 the app introduced Be My AI, an image-description feature powered by GPT-4 Vision, giving users instant AI descriptions alongside the human volunteer network. Specialist support teams from partner companies are also available directly in the app.

What It Does

Users tap one button to connect via live video with a volunteer, a specialist support agent, or the Be My AI assistant. The person or AI describes what the camera sees — reading text on packaging, interpreting a document, guiding through an unfamiliar environment, or identifying objects. The app is self-voicing, works with VoiceOver and TalkBack, and requires no subscription. All calls, AI descriptions, and volunteer connections are completely free.

Who It Helps

Be My Eyes is designed for anyone who is blind or has low vision and needs real-time visual assistance. It is widely used by people with congenital blindness, progressive vision loss, and seniors, as well as those who need occasional help with visual tasks at home, at work, or while travelling.
