About this resource

About

CoughDrop was built with an open-access mindset, with its source code publicly available on GitHub. The app is recognised for cross-platform flexibility and recommended by AAC professionals as an affordable alternative to traditional dedicated devices. Supervisor accounts for caregivers and therapists are always included at no cost.

What It Does

Users and their support teams build personalised communication boards from thousands of symbols drawn from popular AAC libraries, or upload their own images. Boards sync securely across all devices via the cloud, and offline use is supported on browsers implementing the Service Worker API. Usage data and reports help therapists and educators track communication progress and refine goals over time.

Who It Helps

CoughDrop serves children and adults with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, Rett syndrome, and complex communication needs across all ages. Its affordability, multi-language support, and device-agnostic approach make it especially valuable for low-income families, international users, and schools seeking a flexible AAC solution without hardware lock-in.
