About this resource

About

Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Richmond, California, Ekso Bionics is a pioneer in medical exoskeleton technology. Its EksoNR exoskeleton holds FDA clearance for stroke, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and spinal cord injury — the only exoskeleton cleared across all four diagnoses. Ekso devices have enabled patients worldwide to take more than 200 million exoskeleton-aided steps.

What It Does

The EksoNR supports clinical gait-training sessions in which therapists can independently adjust the level of powered assistance delivered to each leg, enabling patients across a wide spectrum of impairment levels to practise walking. The Ekso Indego Personal — the lightest commercial exoskeleton available at 31 lbs — is cleared for home and community use by people with SCI at levels T3–L5. Both systems support secondary health benefits including improved bone density, bowel function, and reduced pressure sore risk.

Who It Helps

Rehabilitation patients with lower-limb weakness or paralysis from spinal cord injury, stroke, MS, or acquired brain injury, and rehabilitation centres and outpatient clinics seeking advanced robotic gait-training technology.
