About
HabitRPG Inc. launched Habitica in 2013 as an open-source gamified productivity platform. It has grown into a global community used by millions, and is particularly embraced by people with ADHD, depression, and executive dysfunction who find traditional task managers unstimulating or punitive.
What It Does
Users create a pixel-art avatar and earn experience points, gold, and in-game equipment by completing daily habits, to-do list items, and recurring tasks. Social features let users join parties, complete quests together, and hold one another accountable — a mechanism especially effective for ADHD brains that respond strongly to social obligation and external expectations. All core gameplay and task management features are free and open-source; optional subscriptions unlock cosmetic items only.
Who It Helps
Habitica is most frequently used by adults and young adults with ADHD, executive dysfunction, depression, or low intrinsic motivation who need external rewards and social accountability to initiate and sustain daily tasks. It is also popular among neurodivergent people who find conventional to-do apps boring or shame-inducing.
