About this resource

About

HumanWare, headquartered in Drummondville, Québec, Canada, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of assistive technology for blind and low-vision users, with products spanning magnifiers, braille notetakers, and orientation aids. The Prodigi line has evolved from a dedicated desktop unit to include portable handheld models and the Connect 12, an Android-based tablet in an integrated magnifier stand with LED lighting.

What It Does

Prodigi magnifiers display a live high-definition camera image of whatever is placed beneath or in front of the lens at magnification levels from 1× to 24× (and beyond in digital zoom modes). Diamond Edge Text technology enhances character contrast at every magnification level. The built-in OCR engine reads entire documents aloud using text-to-speech at the touch of a button. Colour mode presets — including black-on-white, white-on-black, and high-contrast colour options — are switchable with a single control. The portable Connect 12 runs Android 12 in a foldable stand enclosure, adding app access and connectivity while preserving the simple dedicated-button interface.

Who It Helps

Prodigi magnifiers are used primarily by adults and older adults with low-vision conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy who want to read printed mail, books, medication labels, or documents independently — without needing to learn computer or smartphone operation.
