About
Lazarillo was developed with direct input from blind users and orientation and mobility specialists, and is available free on iOS and Android with all core features included at no cost. The app is used globally and places particular emphasis on cities and regions across Latin America and Europe, reflecting its origins as a project committed to accessible navigation in underserved markets.
What It Does
As soon as the app launches, it begins announcing the user's current street, nearby intersection names, and surrounding points of interest. Users can search for specific destinations by name or address and receive spoken turn-by-turn guidance; browse nearby places by category — food, health, banks, transit, shops; save favourite locations for quick access; and activate Location Tracking to be alerted when approaching a saved place. The app continues announcing navigation information when running in the background, allowing users to listen via headphones while keeping their phone in a bag or pocket.
Who It Helps
Lazarillo is designed for people who are blind or have low vision who need free, reliable outdoor navigation. It is widely used by students, commuters, and travellers in countries where paid GPS apps may be unaffordable, and is supported by active feedback from the blind community.
