About
Founded in 2017 by brothers Barry and Jered Dean, LUCI was created after a family member's near-miss experience in a power wheelchair. The device uses stereo-vision cameras combined with infrared, ultrasonic, and radar sensors to give any compatible power chair intelligent, context-aware safety assistance.
What It Does
LUCI detects drop-offs, steep ramps, and obstacles before they become hazards, automatically slowing or steering the chair to keep the user safe. The MyLUCI cloud portal lets users review driving logs, configure caregiver alerts, and share data with clinicians — including location alerts when the battery is critically low. LUCI is compatible with approximately two-thirds of power wheelchairs on the market.
Who It Helps
Power wheelchair users who want increased safety and independence at home and in the community — especially people with limited upper-body control, reduced sensation, or conditions that affect reaction time. Caregivers and clinicians benefit from remote visibility into daily driving patterns and incidents.
