About this resource

About

LUCI is a Nashville-based assistive technology company that developed a smart add-on device for power wheelchairs. Rather than replacing a user's existing chair, LUCI attaches to it and layers on sensing, safety, and connectivity features that standard power chairs lack. The hardware uses patented FusionSensors™ combining stereo computer vision, radar, and infrared/ultrasonic range-finding to give the chair a 360-degree awareness of its environment.

What It Does

LUCI's core safety features include collision avoidance, drop-off protection (detecting steps and ledges), anti-tip alerts on steep ramps, and fall alarms that can notify caregivers automatically. The MyLUCI app provides real-time seat-pressure mapping so users can monitor and shift pressure to prevent skin injuries, alongside performance data and trip logs. The system also integrates with Alexa and Google Assistant, turning the wheelchair into a hub for voice-controlled smart-home commands.

Who It Helps

LUCI is designed for power wheelchair users who want greater safety and independence — particularly those with spinal cord injuries, ALS, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, or other conditions that limit their ability to manually check their surroundings or monitor seating pressure. It is made in the USA and is intended for adult community users.
