About this resource

About

Seeing AI was developed by Microsoft and first launched on iOS in 2017. It was co-created with members of the blind and low-vision community and has been continuously expanded with new capabilities. The Android release brought the app to billions of additional potential users. It is available at no cost via seeingai.com.

What It Does

Seeing AI offers multiple task channels: reading text from any printed or digital surface, scanning barcodes to identify products, describing photos and live scenes, recognising stored faces and announcing who is nearby, identifying currency, reading handwriting, and describing images in photos. A document chat feature lets users scan a page and then ask conversational questions about its contents. The app supports over 18 languages.

Who It Helps

Seeing AI is designed for blind and low-vision individuals who encounter visual information throughout daily life — from reading printed mail, medication labels, and food packaging to identifying people, navigating new places, and accessing images shared on social media.
