About this resource

About

Nagish is a free, FCC-certified call captioning service available on iOS and Android. Unlike many captioning services, Nagish does not require users to maintain a second phone number, keeping the experience simple and portable. In 2024–2025, Nagish became the first new FCC-certified IP Relay provider since 2014 and also received FCC IP CTS certification.

What It Does

The app converts speech to text in real time during phone calls, displaying captions and letting users respond by voice or typed text. All conversations are private, processed on Nagish servers without human access, and stored as searchable transcripts. A personal dictionary lets users add names, acronyms, and specialist terms to improve recognition accuracy. The service is funded through the federal Telecommunications Relay Service at no cost to users.

Who It Helps

Nagish is designed for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals who want a portable, private phone captioning experience without additional hardware or a separate telephone number.
