About this resource

About

Otter.ai was adopted by university disability services including UCLA and UC Berkeley to support students who cannot take notes manually or who lose track of spoken content due to attention or processing differences. The tool functions both as a real-time transcription aid and as a post-meeting review resource.

What It Does

Otter records audio and produces live rolling transcriptions with speaker identification, highlights, and automatic AI-generated meeting summaries and key-word outlines. Transcripts are searchable, shareable, and accessible across iOS, Android, and the web. The free tier provides 300 minutes of transcription per month; paid plans remove limits and add features such as real-time AI chat about the transcript.

Who It Helps

Students and professionals with ADHD who struggle to take notes while listening; people with learning disabilities such as dysgraphia; individuals with auditory processing disorders; and anyone with a physical condition that prevents manual note-taking. Also used by deaf and hard-of-hearing people in meetings without a live interpreter.
