About
Predictable was launched in 2011 by Therapy Box, a London-based assistive technology company, and has grown into one of the most internationally adopted text-based AAC apps. It has received multiple accessibility awards and is endorsed by the Motor Neurone Disease Association for its impact on people with severe physical impairments.
What It Does
The app uses a smart word prediction engine that learns the user's vocabulary and phrasing patterns over time, automatically assigning symbols to predicted words to speed selection. A phrase bank and history strip keep frequently used messages accessible with minimal keystrokes. ElevenLabs AI voice integration allows users to personalise their voice output, and messages can be translated and spoken in any of 43 supported languages.
Who It Helps
Predictable is primarily used by literate adults with ALS/MND, locked-in syndrome, Parkinson disease, laryngectomy, cerebral palsy, and stroke-related conditions who cannot produce reliable speech but retain the ability to type or use switch access. It is particularly valued for its natural voice personalisation and low switch-access fatigue.
