About
Co-founded by Christopher and Dana Reeve after Christopher's 1995 spinal cord injury, the National Paralysis Resource Center (NPRC) was created to fill the information gaps the family encountered navigating life with paralysis. Federally funded and operated by the Reeve Foundation, it serves as a free national resource open to anyone living with paralysis or supporting someone who is.
What It Does
The NPRC's trained information specialists help individuals navigate insurance coverage for power wheelchairs and exoskeletons, identify local rehabilitation centres, connect with peer mentors, and understand adaptive driving options. The free Paralysis Resource Guide covers every aspect of living with paralysis from acute care through long-term independence. Online resources address smart home technology, vehicle modifications, seating and skin care, and emerging therapies in plain, accessible language.
Who It Helps
People newly diagnosed with spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, ALS, or other conditions causing paralysis, as well as long-term wheelchair users seeking updated information on mobility technology. Family members, caregivers, and care coordinators are equally supported through peer programmes, downloadable guides, and direct access to information specialists.
