About this resource

About

CaptionCall by Sorenson has been a leading provider of captioned telephone service since 2010, delivering over 400 million captioned calls. It is funded by the FCC Telecommunications Relay Service programme and provided free to qualifying individuals with hearing loss who self-certify their need — no audiologist referral required.

What It Does

Users speak normally into the phone while real-time captions of the other caller's speech appear on a touchscreen. The service is available via a dedicated CaptionCall home phone (free delivery and installation included) or the CaptionCall Mobile app for iOS and Android. Captions can be reviewed after the call ends. For senior residents in care facilities, Sorenson offers direct institutional partnerships.

Who It Helps

Hard-of-hearing, late-deafened, and deaf adults throughout the United States — particularly older adults experiencing age-related hearing loss who want to continue using the telephone independently.
