About this resource

About

Sorenson Communications is the leading Video Relay Service (VRS) provider in the United States, offering free video relay calls to deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals who use American Sign Language. The service is funded by the FCC's Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) Fund; users and the hearing parties they call pay nothing.

What It Does

Users sign in ASL to a Sorenson interpreter visible on screen; the interpreter voices their message to a hearing caller and signs the hearing person's spoken replies back. The ntouch suite of apps brings VRS to iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac devices without dedicated hardware. The Lumina VP is a purpose-built home videophone for those who prefer dedicated hardware. A second app, Wavello, enables three-way video calls where a hearing friend also appears on screen alongside the interpreter, enabling a more natural group conversation.

Who It Helps

Deaf ASL users in the United States who need to communicate by telephone with hearing people. Free to register and use with no per-call cost; available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
