About
AbleVoices was created by Jen Vogus — an educator, photographer, and parent-advocate of an adult child with a disability — with the mission of amplifying the voices of people with disabilities through photography. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit is based in Middle Tennessee and serves individuals aged 14 and older with a wide range of disabilities.
What It Does
AbleVoices runs year-round in-person and virtual Photography Club programmes where participants explore scenic locations, build photography skills, and develop social connections and community belonging. The Photo Academy provides studio-based and community work-based learning experiences where photographers develop employment skills alongside artistic ones. The Reflection and Connection programme uses guided weekly photo activities tailored for older adults experiencing dementia.
Who It Helps
AbleVoices serves teenagers and adults with physical, intellectual, developmental, learning, and psychiatric disabilities, as well as older adults experiencing dementia. The programme is especially valuable for those seeking creative self-expression, social connection, and pathways to supported employment in the arts.
