About
Founded in 2003 at Mammoth Mountain in the California Eastern Sierra, Access Mammoth, formerly known as Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra (DSES), delivers personalised outdoor adaptive sports experiences using advanced equipment and leading-edge adaptive techniques. The organisation recently updated its name to better reflect its identity and inclusive mission.
What It Does
In winter, Access Mammoth offers adaptive alpine skiing, snowboarding, and Nordic skiing at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center, with certified adaptive instructors (many holding PSIA adaptive certifications) and state-of-the-art adaptive ski equipment. All lessons require advance booking by phone. In summer, the programme expands to include road cycling, mountain biking, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, rock climbing, hiking, fishing, and camping throughout the Eastern Sierra.
Who It Helps
Access Mammoth serves individuals of all ages with physical and intellectual disabilities, including wheelchair users, people with amputations, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, and cognitive or developmental disabilities. The programme is designed for beginners through experienced adaptive athletes, with all levels of ability welcomed and specialised equipment provided.
