About
Achieve Tahoe began in 1967 when a group of Vietnam veterans with disabilities improvised adaptive ski equipment and taught themselves to ski at Soda Springs, California. That effort became the founding chapter of what is now Move United and stands as the birthplace of organised adaptive winter sports in North America. Today the 501(c)(3) nonprofit operates at Palisades Tahoe.
What It Does
Achieve Tahoe provides adaptive skiing and snowboarding instruction using bi-skis, mono-skis, outriggers, and other specialised equipment matched to each participant's disability. Beyond snow sports, year-round activities include sailing, water skiing, adaptive horsemanship, climbing, archery, paddle sports, and adventure camps.
Who It Helps
Programmes are open to children and adults with physical, sensory, and cognitive disabilities. Veterans with service-connected disabilities are a core constituency, alongside civilians with spinal cord injuries, limb differences, visual impairments, and intellectual disabilities.
