About
Adaptive Adventures was founded in 1999 in Denver, Colorado with the mission of connecting people with disabilities to the outdoors. The organisation focuses on reducing barriers to entry — especially for people who have never tried an adaptive sport — through welcoming, well-staffed events and a no-prior-experience-required philosophy.
What It Does
Adaptive Adventures runs seasonal programmes including adaptive skiing and snowboarding at Colorado resorts, adaptive cycling clinics on trails and roads, kayaking and paddling events, and summer hiking. Equipment is provided at no extra cost and trained volunteer staff work one-on-one with participants. A scholarship programme covers programme fees for those who cannot afford them. Events are held across the Front Range and mountain communities of Colorado.
Who It Helps
Children and adults with physical disabilities — including spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, limb differences, and other conditions — who want to experience outdoor recreation, often for the first time. The organisation also serves veterans and has a strong family participation culture.
