About this resource

About

Artistic Realization Technologies (A.R.T.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Belle Mead, New Jersey, founded in 1995. A.R.T. exists specifically to bring liberating self-determination to those who face the most severe multiple physical and neurological challenges — individuals who do not walk, cannot speak, and have no articulate use of their hands.

What It Does

A.R.T. has developed adaptive systems, studio programming, and training that give people with severe physical disabilities perfect individual control over the art-making process. A participant uses a laser pointer to indicate intent while trained trackers act as the artist's hands, translating direction into painting, music composition, sculpture, or photography. The A.R.T. method delivers both significant health benefits and a meaningful source of self-expression and potential employment for participants.

Who It Helps

A.R.T. specifically serves people with severe multiple physical and neurological disabilities — including those with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal muscular atrophy, and similar conditions causing complete or near-complete loss of limb function. Programmes are available for children, teenagers, and adults of all ages.
