About
AXS Map was created by AXS Labs and filmmaker Jason DaSilva after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and began using a wheelchair. Recognising the gap in mainstream mapping tools, he built a community-powered platform where people with and without disabilities could collectively document access for everyone.
What It Does
Users search by location and venue type—restaurant, shop, transit stop, public restroom—and see colour-coded accessibility ratings: blue (accessible), tan (caution), orange (alert). Ratings cover entrance steps, interior navigation, and restroom access. Mapathon events bring volunteers together to systematically survey neighbourhoods, with teams competing to map the most locations. The data is freely searchable on web, iOS, and Android.
Who It Helps
Wheelchair and mobility-aid users who want crowd-verified, specific accessibility data when exploring cities at home or while travelling, and disability advocates who want to drive accessibility improvements in their communities.
