Community Access to the Arts (CATA) has operated since 1989 guided by the belief that the arts are a fundamental human right for people of all abilities. In 2020 CATA completed a capital campaign to open a fully accessible arts center in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, with dedicated studios for visual and performing arts and extensive outreach to partner organizations across the region.
CATA deploys Faculty Artists — accomplished painters, sculptors, musicians, actors, and dancers specially trained in disability inclusion — to lead adaptive workshops both at its accessible center and at partner disability agencies, day-habilitation programs, residences, and schools. The organization actively cultivates public performance and exhibition opportunities so participants can share their creative work with the broader community.
Children, teenagers, and adults with physical, intellectual, developmental, sensory, and other disabilities across the Berkshires and Columbia County who seek professional-quality arts instruction adapted to their individual needs and abilities.
Music and Memory trains care facilities and families to create personalised playlists for people with dementia and other cognitive conditions, helping them reconnect with memories, reduce anxiety, and improve quality of life. Over 5,800 organisations across the US and internationally have been certified in their programme since 2010.
