About this resource

About

Founded in 1983 and based in San Francisco's Mission District and Potrero Hill neighbourhoods, Creativity Explored is a nonprofit visual arts centre that has been advancing the careers of artists with developmental disabilities for over four decades. The organisation is grounded in the belief that every person has the capacity for creative expression and deserves to be seen as a professional artist.

What It Does

Creativity Explored provides studio space, art supplies, and structured instruction to more than 130 enrolled artists. Participants work in a range of media and exhibit their work through the organisation's gallery, online shop, and national exhibition partnerships. Artists earn 50% commission on all artwork sales, and the organisation actively markets their work to collectors and institutions.

Who It Helps

Adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities, including those with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, and related conditions, who are seeking a supported professional art practice and an opportunity to sell their work.
