About this resource

About

Creativity Explored (CE) was founded in 1983 in San Francisco's Mission District by artist Florence Ludins-Katz and psychologist Elias Katz, born directly from the nationwide deinstitutionalisation movement for people with disabilities. CE functions as a studio-based collective and is a San Francisco Best Nonprofit award recipient.

What It Does

Staff teaching-artists guide members through oil pastels, painting, sculpture, digital media, textiles, printmaking, drawing, and collage. CE presents gallery exhibitions, participates in international art fairs, and sells artwork through its gallery and online shop. Artists earn 50% of all revenue from their work, which has been exhibited in museums and galleries in more than 14 countries.

Who It Helps

Adults with developmental disabilities in the San Francisco Bay Area seeking a professional studio, gallery representation, arts-based income, and a supportive creative community.
