About
Originating in 1975 as a small university volunteer initiative, Ignite Adaptive Sports has grown into one of Colorado's longest-running adaptive snow sports organisations. Based at Eldora Mountain Resort just 21 miles from Boulder, Ignite is entirely volunteer-powered—from lesson delivery to fundraising and equipment maintenance.
What It Does
Ignite provides one-on-one adaptive lessons in alpine skiing, Nordic cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and ski biking. Volunteer instructors complete a rigorous certification programme before working independently with students. Specialist equipment—sit-skis, outriggers, adaptive snowshoes, and ski bikes—is supplied at no charge. Scholarships and subsidised programming ensure financial barriers do not prevent participation.
Who It Helps
Ignite serves children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities, including spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, and visual impairments. The organisation is open to first-time snow sport participants and experienced adaptive athletes alike, welcoming anyone who can benefit from adapted instruction in a mountain setting.
