The International Braille Chess Association (IBCA) has coordinated competitive chess for blind and visually impaired players since its informal founding in 1951, when it organised the first international correspondence chess tournament for blind players across 10 countries. Today it is affiliated with both FIDE (the world chess governing body) and the International Blind Sports Federation.
The IBCA organises major international competitions including the Blind Chess Olympiad, the Individual World Championship, Feminine World Championship, Junior World Championship, World Team Championships, and European Open Championships. It also facilitates regular online tournaments via Lichess.org, making competitive blind chess accessible to players around the world without travel.
Blind and visually impaired chess players worldwide who want to compete at regional, national, and international levels, and national federations seeking affiliation and support for their blind chess programmes.
