About this resource

About

LAND (League Artist Natural Design) was founded in 2005 in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighbourhood of Brooklyn as an adult programme of The League Education & Treatment Center. It operates as a day habilitation programme that integrates life-skills development with professional studio practice, treating all participants as working professional artists.

What It Does

LAND provides a structured studio and gallery environment where artists work across a wide range of disciplines — painting, sculpture, fiber arts, animation, design, jewellery, mosaic, and glass fabrication. The programme has received multiple Support for Artists grants from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) in 2018, 2020, 2023, and 2024. LAND artist work has appeared at the Outsider Art Fair, been featured in The New York Times, and entered numerous private collections.

Who It Helps

Adult artists with developmental disabilities in Brooklyn and the wider New York City area who benefit from supported daily studio access, professional gallery representation, and community integration through art practice.
