About this resource

About

Founded in 1982 at Sunday River Resort by Dr. Omar Crothers and Leslie Otten, Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation began as the state's first adaptive ski organisation. Today it is Maine's largest year-round adaptive sport provider, delivering more than 3,500 lessons every year from its base in Newry, Maine.

What It Does

Maine Adaptive offers five winter sports — alpine skiing, alpine racing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing — at seven locations statewide, from Sugarloaf to Pineland Farms. All lessons are completely free: instruction, adaptive equipment, and trail/lift passes are included at no cost. Summer programming adds kayaking, cycling, and hiking.

Who It Helps

Maine Adaptive serves children and adults with physical disabilities and cognitive disabilities throughout Maine. Financial barriers are completely removed through its fully funded model.
