About this resource

About

The Miracle League was founded in 2000 in Conyers, Georgia when a group of parents built the world's first rubberised, accessible baseball field so their children with disabilities could play the game they loved. There are now more than 330 Miracle League associations in the US and several countries, serving over 230,000 players annually.

What It Does

Miracle League associations organise weekly baseball games pairing players who have physical and developmental disabilities with volunteer "buddies" who assist as needed. Every player bats in every inning and every player scores a run — the focus is participation and joy, not competition. The specialised rubber fields prevent wheelchairs from sinking and falls from becoming injuries.

Who It Helps

Children and adults with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and any other condition that may prevent participation in mainstream leagues. Programmes are typically free or very low cost. Use the league finder on the website to locate the nearest association.
