About
Founded in 1957 by Arnulf Erich Stegmann, who painted with his mouth after contracting polio, the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (AMFPA) is one of the world's oldest and largest disability-led creative co-operatives, operating entirely for the financial benefit of its member artists. The US office has been based in Atlanta, Georgia since 2000.
What It Does
Produces and distributes greeting cards, calendars, art prints, jigsaw puzzles, and books featuring member artists' original paintings, sold across 48 countries. All profits return to artists as monthly stipends for associate members and pensions for full members. The MFPA actively recruits artists who paint to a high standard and are unable to use their hands due to disability.
Who It Helps
Artists with physical disabilities — including spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, limb difference, and neurological conditions — who have lost functional use of their hands and create original artwork using their mouth, feet, or other means.
