About this resource

About

The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD), based at Winter Park Resort in Colorado, has been providing adaptive sports since 1970 — making it one of the oldest and largest adaptive sports programmes in the world. It serves more than 4,000 individuals each year across winter and summer seasons.

What It Does

In winter, NSCD offers adaptive skiing and snowboarding using specialised equipment including sit-skis, outriggers, and bi-skis. Summer programmes include adaptive mountain biking, hiking, camping, and rock climbing. The organisation also serves US military veterans, children with cognitive disabilities, and people with traumatic brain injuries. Scholarship funding is available.

Who It Helps

Children and adults with a wide range of disabilities including physical, cognitive, sensory, and traumatic brain injury. Programmes are designed for all skill levels from first-timers to competitive racers. A national leader in developing adaptive technique and equipment standards.
