About this resource

About

No Barriers USA was founded in 2002 and is best known for the motto of its co-founder, blind mountaineer Erik Weihenmayer: "What's within you is stronger than what's in your way." The organisation runs experiential outdoor programmes for people with disabilities, veterans, and youth, believing that challenge in wild places catalyses transformation.

What It Does

No Barriers organises multi-day wilderness expeditions, kayaking trips, climbing adventures, and week-long summits for participants with a wide range of disabilities. Its Warriors programme serves veterans with physical and psychological injuries. The No Barriers Summit is an annual festival combining outdoor challenges with keynote speakers, workshops, and community. Scholarships and subsidies are available.

Who It Helps

Adults with physical, sensory, and neurological disabilities, as well as veterans with service-connected injuries or PTSD, who want to experience outdoor adventure and personal growth in a supported expedition environment.
