About this resource

About

Ski for Light, Inc. (SFL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1975 with the mission to enhance the quality of life and independence of visually or mobility-impaired adults through a programme of cross-country skiing. Each year SFL hosts a week-long residential event at a rotating US destination, bringing together participants and volunteer guides from across the country in an immersive, community-focused format.

What It Does

SFL pairs every participant with a trained sighted guide for one-on-one Nordic skiing instruction across terrain suited to their ability level. The week-long format builds both technical skill and lasting social connection, blending on-snow sessions with community activities. SFL also maintains a directory of local and regional guide–skier groups that meet throughout the year.

Who It Helps

SFL primarily serves adults who are blind, have low vision, or have mobility impairments that make independent Nordic skiing challenging. No prior skiing experience is required — the programme is equally designed for first-time participants and those looking to refine an established technique.
