About
Stitchlinks was founded in 2005 by wellbeing coach and former physiotherapist Betsan Corkhill. The organisation is dedicated to using knitting and other therapeutic creative activities to improve wellbeing and complement medical self-management of long-term health conditions, chronic illness, and disability.
What It Does
Stitchlinks publishes research findings, practitioner resources, and community guidance on the neuroscience behind knitting's bilateral, rhythmic movements and their physiological and psychological benefits. Research documented by Stitchlinks shows that 54% of chronically depressed knitters saw a reduction in symptoms while knitting, and nearly 100% of knitters with chronic pain experienced symptom reduction. Resources support individuals and healthcare professionals in establishing therapeutic knitting groups.
Who It Helps
People living with chronic pain, depression, anxiety, chronic illness, or physical disability who want to use knitting as a self-management and wellbeing tool, as well as occupational therapists and healthcare professionals supporting them.
