The Tabletop Accessibility Checklist, published by Explorers Design, is a freely available reference guide for making board and card games more inclusive for players with disabilities. It draws from WCAG 2.1 guidelines, ADA guidance, and disability-led design resources including the Visual Accessibility Skills Toolkit (VAST) and the A11Y Project.
The checklist provides actionable guidance on colour contrast ratios, font sizing and typeface choice, tactile component differentiation, rulebook legibility, component handling for limited dexterity, and reducing cognitive load. It acknowledges that accessibility is an ongoing process and offers concrete, actionable steps for independent designers, publishers, and educators creating tabletop games.
